Job Focus Areas:
This Education Consultant 2 position serves as the division expert and subject matter authority for the Approved Home Study and Nonpublic Schools Not Seeking State Approval programming as well as the staff assistant to the Executive Director of Nonpublic Programs. This position functions to assist in the achievement of the goals and mission of the Louisiana Department of Education as applicable through ensuring proper program support and oversight for home study. Additionally this position contributes to the programmatic work of the Tuition Donation Credit Program LA GATOR Scholarship Program School Choice Program for Certain Students with Exceptionalities and other projects aligned with nonpublic school programming.
Communication skills and project management experience are essential for success in this role. It is imperative that the person in this position is highly independent and self-directed capable of managing multiple complex tasks while also responding promptly to both external requests and internal needs from team members within the Division and across the Agency.
Candidates with the following skillsare encouraged to apply:- Experience in education and/or work experience in project management and data analysis.
- Knowledge of Louisiana home study regulations and school attendance requirements at the local state and federal levels.
- Knowledge of personal computer-based applications including word processing spreadsheets and databases.
- Ability to analyze multiple sets of data to generate reports.
- Ability to identify analyze and address various issues and problems with many variables in a high-intensity and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments to develop consensus and to execute on plans.
- Exceptional time management skills with a keen understanding of task-tracking and project management approaches.
- Exemplary oral and written communication skills exercising diplomacy tact discretion and active listening.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills and the ability to meet and prioritize changing demands.
- Ability to compile and summarize data and information in succinct and understandable reports and formats.
- Proven experience fostering environments of trust transparency and accountability with demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to make independent decisions and communicate the same to internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
Six years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus three years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
A bachelors degree plus three years of experience in education teaching or administrative services; OR
An advanced degree plus two years of experience in education teaching or administrative services.

Job Duties and Other Information
The Education Consultant 2 in the Office of School Choice will:
- Develop program functions and operations processes for the BESE-Approved Home Study and Nonpublic Schools Not Seeking State Approval programs;
- Gather/compile and report data and lead research efforts for annual reports as assigned;
- Receive and process home study initial and renewal applications for families in the state of Louisiana;
- Provide technical support to home school applicants and school districts;
- Prepare responses to home study applicants and school districts on behalf of the agency;
- Accept and review required curriculum resource submissions from home study applicants to ensure the curriculum is of quality as outlined in RS 17:236;
- Design and update website information for families and school districts including details on the application process approval process and timelines.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational Promotional or Job Appointment. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if selected.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
**Note regarding the advertised pay range: The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
