Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides compassionate trauma-informed care and support to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges including mental health and substance use disorders. The BHT works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe therapeutic environment while promoting recovery stability and access to resources. This role involves direct patient care crisis intervention and collaboration with clinical staff to implement treatment plans.


Required Education and Experience

Education Requirements

  • Associates degree in psychology social work or related field

Types of Experience

  • 1 year of experience in behavioral health crisis intervention or peer support (preferred).

Credentials

  • Registered Behavioral Health Technician

Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Horizons quality care standards to ensure service delivery supports Horizons mission and values.
  • Knowledge of electronic health records and documentation standards as required by the program.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally person-to-person.
  • Ability to implement training programs for the individuals.
  • Safely assist individuals with all aspects of physical management including equipment use safe lifting and physical assistance.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate a computer utilize an electronic health record electronic time sheet and other software/systems used by Horizon.
  • Able to respond quickly to correct situations deemed to be hazardous especially to consumers.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize personal protective equipment in a manner that is compliant with standard precautions and safety expectations.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid drivers license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
  • Ability to work productively and accomplish program and individual goals with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to record data accurately within established expectations and by communicated deadlines.
  • Ability to locate and interpret facts and make decisions based on established procedures and
    protocols.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends holidays etc.) as required.
  • Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
  • Ability to lift and transfer consumers up to an average of 50 to 80 pounds.
