The number of cases handled by the juvenile court system is staggeringunintentionally leaving many children wading through the system for yearswith no resolve.

Yigo County CASA provides speciallyselected and trained community volunteersto advocate and represent the abused andneglected children within the juvenile court
system; in the pursuit of safe andpermanent homes for them throughcollaboration with key agencies legalcounsel and resources in the community.

CASA is an acronym for Court Appointed SpecialAdvocates. CASAs are specially trainedcommunity volunteers that are appointedby a judge to serve children entering intothe welfare system due to neglect and / orabuse by their caregiver.
CASA volunteers are thevoice of the childspeaking for thebest interest ofthat childthroughout thejuvenile courtproceedings.

The primary goal of the Vlgo CountyCASA Program remains as concrete as it was at the programs best interest of the child is theONLY agenda that a CASA Volunteer isasked to fulfill. That being said someof the duties that a volunteer wouldperform are listed below:While advocating for a child aCASA volunteer will:

Attempt to make contact with everyoneinvolved in the childs life including thechild parents faster parents grandparents& other relatives teachers caseworkerscounselors therapists medical doctors andother professionals.
Attend court hearings and submit writtenreports outlining findings andrecommendations as to the best interest ofthe child.
Strive in collaboration with local agenciesto obtain the best possible living solutionfor the child whether it be reunificationwith the parents placement with relativesor adoption.
