The Staff Auditor II provides professional auditing services within the Office of the Internal Auditor (OIA) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This position supports compliance financial operational and data analytic audit engagements across the departments diverse programs. Work is conducted under direct supervision and follows established audit procedures and standards.

This role contributes to departmental oversight by preparing audit documentation assisting with audit findings and conducting follow-ups. It also supports the OIAs data analytics initiatives and plays a key part in reviewing and resolving audit-related issues. The position assists in ensuring departmental processes meet regulatory and performance standards.

Key Duties Include:
  • Perform audit fieldwork testing and documentation under established procedures

  • Analyze financial operational and programmatic data for audit evidence

  • Support integrated audit teams across performance compliance and IT audits

  • Participate in developing audit findings and recommendations

  • Prepare and maintain audit work papers and documentation

  • Follow up on previous audit issues and resolutions

  • Perform data analytics tasks and continuous audit engagements

  • Communicate audit outcomes through written reports and oral presentations

  • Organize tasks efficiently and manage time to meet project goals

  • Engage in professional development and contribute to audit process improvements

About the Office of the Internal Auditor:

The Office of the Internal Auditor (OIA) performs independent assessments and audits concerning operational compliance financial and legal risks to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). OIA provides a variety of assurance and consulting services to help the Department improve the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and its risk management control and governance processes. We are an office dedicated to working collaboratively toward helping NCDHHS continuously improve and positively impacting the lives of the North Carolinians.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

Bachelors degree in accounting or a discipline related to a program area within the agency and two years of audit experience
OR
Bachelors degree in any field and certification/licensure as a certified internal auditor certified fraud examiner certified information system auditor certified public accountant with an audit focus or other audit certification/license and two years of audit experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
