Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice-President General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer the Director Legal will be a trusted advisor providing legal advice consultation and formal legal opinions to all levels of the Foundation. With a strong service-delivery mindset the Director Legal will support a wide range of initiativesfrom preparing and reviewing agreements to privacy procurement estates litigation and risk management. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to ensure legal compliance manage risk and protect the Foundations interests.
You will:
- Draft and negotiate agreements in all areas including supplier agreements requests for proposals master services agreements statement of work IT agreements licensing agreements consulting agreements gift agreements sponsorship agreements and related matters;
- Provide legal guidance on procurement and support implementation of the Foundations Procurement Policy.
- Provide legal advice on privacy and confidentiality compliance and respond to related inquiries.
- Manage a portfolio of contentious estates including oversight of administration negotiation with estate trustees or their counsel and drafting of releases and documentation.
- Assist in litigation support and settlement including mediations drafting demand letters and managing select litigation files.
- Support enterprise risk management initiatives through committee participation and contributing to reports and presentations for senior leadership.
- Oversee and continuously improve the Foundations legal templates precedents and internal policy and procedure development; train staff on legal documentation best practices.
- Assist with employment law matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:
- B/J.D. Degree with a minimum of 7 years experience in corporate/commercial law particularly in drafting and negotiating agreements.
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Demonstrated strong business acumen and ability to align legal strategy with organizational goals.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Skilled in influencing negotiating and advocating persuasively and effectively.
- Proactive self-motivated and mission-driven approach to work.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and complex legal concepts and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Total Compensation Package:
Hiring Salary Range: $132767 $165958; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $190853. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience skills and qualifications relevant to the Director Legal.
