PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to 35667 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC News NI is recruiting a presenter (radio bulletins newsreader) to join our multimedia newsroom. Presenters will write and prepare radio news bulletins source stories and audio and broadcast live bulletins on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds. BBC Radio Ulster bulletins broadcast from 06:30 to midnight seven days a week so presenters will be expected to work shifts during these times. The radio bulletins team is part of the digital team in the newsroom so presenters may also be expected to contribute and write stories for the BBC News NI website.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Writing concise and accurate radio bulletins stories demonstrating the ability to exercise strong editorial judgement while under pressure
  • Dealing with complex editorial and legal issues
  • Contributing on a daily basis to the production of original journalism by the BBC News NI team
  • Present live radio bulletins on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds and upload bulletins for on demand services.
  • Working alongside the digital team on a daily basis while liaising with the wider newsroom in order to promote an integrated approach across all platforms.
  • Be prepared to work across the newsroom in each of the departments.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrate strong journalistic skills and a passion for news and current affairs.
  • Have excellent writing skills and a strong grasp of editorial and legal issues.
  • Experience of producing and presenting live radio news bulletins and have a strong broadcasting voice.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of politics current affairs and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland the Republic of Ireland and further afield.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • First class production skills razor sharp news judgement and an ability to deal with complex legal and editorial issues often under pressure.
  • Ability to produce distinct and impactful journalism that helps our audience know and understand the news.
  • A creative story teller and a reputation for producing original journalism having a wealth of contacts and an ability to persuade people to talk.
  • An in-depth knowledge of current affairs politics and cultural life as well as an interest in domestic and foreign news.
