Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) a member of the Texas A&M University System welcomes applicants for anAssistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Drilling Engineering) to beginFall 2026.

TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8000 students located in Laredo Texas a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery teaching and learning community engagement and public service and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. Primary duties will includebuilding an independent externally-funded research program to raise the research profile of the School of Engineering teach courses and actively contribute to the Schools mission. A reduced teaching load is available to allow new hires to establish their research program at the university. Moreover course buyouts are available through internal processes tied to grant funding obtained by the faculty. Duties also includeparticipation in ABET accreditation activities including the assessment and evaluation of student outcomes; other service responsibilities as needed by the School of Engineering including recruitment efforts and initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

We have ABET-accredited programs in Systems Computer and Petroleum Engineering. An M.S. in Systems Engineering will start in Fall 2026. Petroleum Engineering faculty conduct research in enhanced oil recovery geomechanics & hydraulic fracturing carbon storage and enhanced geothermal systems.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold aPh.D. Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely-related discipline. Applicants close to finishing a Ph.D. will be considered if their degree completion is prior to the start of the 2026-2027 academic year. Successful candidates must possess the ability to mentor and advise students working on Senior Design projects and research activities. We strongly encourage candidates with demonstrated experience in any drilling engineering area such as drilling and cementing well planning and design well control drilling fluids drilling optimization wellbore integrity and drilling analytics and automation to apply.


The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential to publish research in highly ranked venues and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate must be able to teach all drilling engineering courses in the curriculum.
