Heavy Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for experienced Heavy Equipment Operators within the Road Department. This position is responsible for maintaining county roads in compliance with county standards.A valid commercial drivers license (CDL) is required to apply.

MAJOR DUTIES

1. Operates heavy equipment in compliance with department operating procedures.
2. Observes distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow and indirect low spots for workers to allot material.
3. Operates lowboy to move equipment.
4. Completes required paperwork reporting and other documentation as requested.
5. Ensures proper operation of equipment by performing regular checks on their functionality and preventive maintenance.
6. Documents regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records equipment performance.
7. Commits to the overall safety of the work environment by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care.
8. Performs minor repairs on equipment issues. Reports needs for larger repairs to appropriate parties.
9. Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

1. Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment.
2. Knowledge of general road repair.
3. Knowledge of troubleshooting operations of heavy equipment.
4. Knowledge of safety procedures.
5. Skill in oral and written communication.
6. Skill in interpersonal relations.
7. Skill in maintaining inspecting clean and repairing pieces of heavy equipment.
8. Skill in situational awareness.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting standing walking bending crouching or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts heavy objects climbs ladders uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes sense of smell.
• The work is typically performed in a noisy place or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust dirt grease and machinery with moving parts. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks goggles and gloves.

WORK SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS

Normal work hours are Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• More than two (2) years of related experience required.
• Possession of a valid Georgia commercial drivers license (CDL) and acceptable driving history.
