JOB SUMMARY
A youth apprenticeship for high school students to gain experience in the field of maintenance and facilities. Apprentices will assist a maintenance technician in performing building maintenance and repair within school facilities. Focus is plumbing and electricity.
Additional Work Days/Hours
Based on the assignment the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs repairs and replaces all types of door and window hardware floor finishes metal framed drywall partitions finishing drywall window sashes/door jambs cabinets stair treads and handrails suspended ceiling tile and T&G ceiling tile.
- Repairs and replaces all floor finishes Vinyl Composite Tile (VCT) carpet quarry tile etc. and masonry block brick and concrete.
- Replaces single and thermal panes in various types of windows doors and showcases.
- Cuts fits and joins lumber and plastic laminate in the construction and repair of cabinetry bookcases and countertops.
- Performs sizing ordering mortising boring fitting and hanging wood/metal doors and blanks.
- Installs and repairs specialty items that include but are not limited to chalkboards bulletin boards smart boards bleachers lockers toilet partitions overhead doors folding partitioning etc.
- Paints the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

- Other: Must be a students at an AACPS high school required.
Experience

- Mechanically inclined.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools.
- Knowledge of basic math and measuring.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail AACPS Intranet electronic benefits enrollment tool Microsoft Office Suite etc.).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses certifications and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Drivers License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Daily access to reliable transportation.

- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
