We are seeking an Associate in Tax Operations
The Associate in Tax Operations specializing in Cost Basis Reporting supports the accurate and timely processing of tax lot data reconciliation of gain/loss transactions and resolution of cost basis discrepancies. This role is essential to ensuring compliance with IRS regulations enhancing client experience and supporting operational stability across platforms such as E*TRADE Shareworks and Morgan Stanley legacy systems.
In the Operations division we partner with business units across the Firm to support financial transactions devise and implement effective controls and develop client relationships.
This is an Associate Professional position at the P2 level within Core Services which is responsible for performing and managing product-agnostic and centralized operational services across several businesses and products.

Key Responsibilities
Cost Basis Reconciliation: Analyze and resolve tax lot breaks across platforms including unrealized and realized discrepancies. Partner with G/L teams to ensure readiness for 1099 prelims
1099-B Reporting Support: Assist in the validation and reconciliation of 1099-B data including testing and UI enhancements for reporting tools
Corporate Actions & Transfers: Monitor and process cost basis adjustments related to mergers acquisitions forfeitures and external transfers. Ensure wash sale data and adjusted basis records are accurately captured
Client Service & Escalation: Respond to cost basis inquiries routed through CSMs and RMs. Collaborate with Premium service teams and Virtual Client Solutions to manage escalations and ensure timely resolution
Training & Documentation: Maintain and update training materials and SOPs for cost basis workflows. Support onboarding and cross-training initiatives for new hires and mobility transfers
Technology & Process Improvements: Contribute to automation efforts including BOTs and reporting platform enhancements. Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and partner with tech teams to implement solutions
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field.
1-3 years of experience in tax operations or cost basis reporting preferred.
Familiarity with IRS cost basis regulations including covered vs. non-covered securities
Proficiency in Excel tax reporting systems and reconciliation tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $65000.00 and $103000.00 per year at the commencement of employment. However base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package which depending on the position may also include commission earnings incentive compensation discretionary bonuses other short and long-term incentive packages and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
