The EMT-PS/PM works individually under the medical direction of the ED Medical Control physician. Provides competent patient care with corresponding documentation and performs other miscellaneous related duties within the EMT-PS/PM scope of practice according to the Iowa Code 641-Chapter 147A with the service physician medical director approval. Demonstrates compliance for routine daily operations performance of QI activities and attends/participates in educational programs and in-services
The EMT-PS/PM is responsible for other duties as assigned by the ORMICS Manager and/ or EMS Director.
Functions as a team member as an EKG tech Code 0 team member Dr. Red (fire) team Dr. Armstrong (security) team Hazmat team IV start team.
Takes an assistant role in triage as requested by team leader.
Demonstrates ability to assist with ED patients from triage to discharge under the direction of the ED physician or RN.
Performs procedures within their EMS Scope of practice.
Transports patients to procedures or hospital inpatient units upon admission.
Participates in precepting EMS students job shadowing opportunities and public tours to make a positive impression of EMS. Actively demonstrates clinical professionalism while precepting new employees.
Completes run audits and QA assignments monthly.
Attends staff meetings run reviews mandatory education and participates in committee activities.
Run report documentation and charge batching
Thorough and proficient daily ambulance checks and equipment checks
Demonstrates ability in the care and handling of patients in all age groups including but not limited to consideration of the special needs and behavior of each respective group.
Knowledge of EMT-PS/PM procedures per DOT curricula and respective Iowa Scope of practice.
Demonstration of adequate BLS skills (CPR oxygen administration immobilization history radio skills assessment).
Demonstration of adequate ALS skills and assessments (IV and IO initiation for adults and pediatric patients ACLS AND PALS proficiency drug administration cardiac monitor interpretation electrical therapy 12 lead EKG endotracheal intubation).
Demonstrates King LT insertion.
Demonstrates competence during life-threatening situations. Correctly interprets situation and acts according to protocol.
Drives in appropriate manner so not to endanger the lives of bystanders other drivers patient and fellow employees. Drives in a manner to avoid collisions with other objects.
Has adequate lifting skills for most patients.
Demonstrates proficiency in operation of 911 phone system voice recorder radios (base/mobiles/portables) and other phones in dispatch area.
Can function in the Incident Command role on field emergencies or mass casualty events.
Demonstrates ability to read ORMICS map book and ability to correctly use GPS in ambulances.
Current BCLS ACLS PALS and Adult and Child Abuse verifications. May have optional endorsements for EVOC EMS-Instructor Evaluator and ERT. Other optional certifications include PHTLS NRP CISD Hazmat OPS AMLS PEEP or other specialty area training.
