The Macon R-1 School District is looking to fill a Payroll/Benefits position.
This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll and administers the districts benefit program for all district employees. This role requires a high level of attention to detail strong analytical skills in-depth knowledge of payroll practices tax regulations and compliance standards. This position will also provide exceptional customer service to staff regarding compensation and benefits offered. This role works closely with HR and Finance to maintain compliance with federal state and local regulations ability to resolve discrepancies and provides audit requirements as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process monthly payroll for all certified classified and substitute staff
- Administer and maintain district employee benefit programs (health dental vision retirement life disability etc.)
- Coordinate open enrollment new hire benefit orientation and changes in coverage
- Maintain payroll records including earnings deductions leave balances and direct deposit information
- Verify time sheets and pay rate changes for accuracy and authorization
- Calculate overtime supplemental pay and leave payouts in accordance with district policy and state/federal law
- Reconcile payroll and benefit reports; submit required filings (retirement unemployment ACA taxes) accurately and on schedule
- Coordinate with HR to ensure personnel actions (new hires terminations changes) are reflected in payroll
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay deductions and leave balances
- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and comply with FERPA HIPPA and other applicable payroll/benefit regulations
- Responsbile for year-end reporting W-2 processing and audit requests
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting Business or related field preferred
- Previous payroll and benefits administration experience preferably in a school district or public sector strongly preferred
- Knowledge of payroll software systems accounting principles and federal/state payroll regulations
- Familiarity with federal/state wage tax and benefit regulations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data
- Ability to maintain confidentiality meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other standard office software; experience with Software Unlimited Inc. a plus
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
