Our client a global manufacturing company is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to play a key role in identifying sustainable packaging solutions and bringing new polymer technologies from development to commercialization. This individual will leverage expertise in plastics extrusion thermoforming and material handling to lead projects that enhance productivity capacity and efficiency across multiple manufacturing plants.
What Youll Be Doing:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in processing plastic materials for consumer packaging.
- Provide recommendations on manufacturing equipment to support current operations and enable future growth.
- Address customer needs and packaging opportunities in a manufacturing setting.
- Manage technical integration of projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams suppliers and equipment manufacturers to solve complex problems and enhance product performance.
- Originate new ideas to support R&D product innovation and technology strategies.
- Foster an engaging and collaborative environment within the R&D organization.
- Promote a safe workplace and ensure compliance with company safety policies.
- Travel up to 40% (primarily domestic).
- Position is onsite in Franklin Park IL.
What Were Looking For:
- B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Plastics Engineering Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science.
- 7 years of experience in plastics manufacturing and processing (extrusion thermoforming tooling); consumer food packaging experience a plus.
- Proven success leading capital projects with OEMs and suppliers.
- Knowledge of PET PP HIPS and PE resins and formula additives; coatings and lamination experience a plus.
- Results-driven with initiative ownership and a hands-on work ethic.
- Strong technical problem-solving capabilities and effective communication skills.
- Highly organized self-motivated and adaptable to fast-paced environments.
