Job Summary

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Material Controls Intern will be training to assist with and develop competency in the following:

  • Inventory Control:This involves managing the level of materials and goods in stock to ensure that production processes are not disrupted due to shortages or excess inventory. Techniques such as just in time (JIT) inventory management or economic order quantity (EOQ) analysis are often employed to optimize inventory levels.
  • Procurement: This involves sourcing and purchasing raw materials components and supplies needed for production. Effective procurement strategies aim to ensure timely availability of materials at the best possible prices without compromising on quality.
  • Warehousing and Storage: Industrial materials management encompasses the efficient storage and organization of inventory within warehouses or stage facilities. This includes proper handling labeling and tracking of materials to facilitate easy retrieval and prevent damage or loss.
  • Logistics and Distribution: It involves the transportation of materials from suppliers to manufacturing facilities and from production sites to distribution centers or customers. Logistics optimization aims to minimize transportation costs reduce lead times and ensure timely delivery.
  • Demand forecasting: Accurate demand forecasting is essential for effective material management. By anticipating future demand for products organizations can adjust their inventory levels and production schedules accordingly to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Building strong relationships with suppliers is crucial for ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of materials. Effective communication collaboration and negotiation with suppliers can help mitigate risks and improve overall supply chain performance.
