Job Summary

Job Description: This role exists to assist the nursing simulation team in voicing and portraying different types of some cases the role requires the skills of a Standardized Patient (SP) who will portray the clinical signs and symptoms of a specific character and disease process. Students may complete a physical examination on the SP as part of their training. The exam will be minimally invasive but could include things such as students sliding a stethoscope down an SPs hospital gown or palpation of the abdomen. No gynecological exams of any kind are included. Training will be provided so that the candidate will be able to accurately reflect the client characteristics as well as assess student clinical skills and provide constructive verbal feedback about a students other cases the role requires the voicing of a high fidelity mannikin. Scripts and training provided in these cases also.

Required Specific Tasks:

  • Be highly dependable and punctual
  • Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments
  • Follow written and verbal instruction
  • Provide constructive feedback to nursing or other health professional students and colleagues
  • Work in a professional manner when interacting with learners faculty supervisors and peers
  • Be comfortable having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self
  • Be willing to wear a hospital gown with undergarments (such as undershirt/shorts) underneath while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor
  • Simulate all aspects of scenarios including history of current problem affect/behavior and physical findings in a standardized accurate and reliable manner
  • Accurately and consistently complete checklists
  • Accept ongoing feedback from facilitators and incorporate into case simulation
  • Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours:

  • Fall semester (Sept Dec) 12-20 hrs weekly Tues and Weds mainly.
  • Spring semester (Jan April) 12-20 hrs weekly Mon Tues Fri mainly.

Minimal Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong reading and writing skills
  • Attention to detail with excellent recall
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Flexibility

Preference will be given to those with:

  • Acting background
  • Healthcare background
