Job Description

Benefits Specialist

Job Description

The Benefits Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining select benefits of individuals supported by CDD ensuring ISL budget authorizations are maintained and for supporting program department with intake and transition of individuals. This position functions as the authorized Medicaid representative for individuals and works closely with the Accounts Receivable Department to ensure timely receipt of benefits of care. They will also assist in overseeing renewing and reconciling of Independent Supportive Living (ISL) program budgets. Directly supervised and evaluated by the Chief Program Officer.

Essential Functions

  • Submits Medicaid reauthorization applications and all related paperwork in a timely manner
  • Responsible for ensuring Medicaid remains active for persons supported
  • Tracks and monitors Medicaid reauthorization dates for persons served
  • Acts as the Authorized Representative for persons served
  • Works closely with Medicaid and KCRO to resolve issues with Medicaid closures appealing if necessary
  • Maintains positive working relationships with Division of Family Services and KCRO staff
  • Works closely with Accounting staff to resolve billing issues relating to Medicaid
  • Tracks and monitors Individual Support Living budget dates for persons supported
  • Ensures ISL budgets are completed accurately signs and submits to TCM or appropriate entity for authorization
  • Tracks and reports ISL variances
  • Works closely with Program staff and Chief Program Officer to ensure staffing patterns and budgets have complete and accurate information
  • Ensures direct support hourly rates are correct
  • Communicates changes on staffing patterns with HR
  • Communicates changes in food stamps or other benefits to Program staff and Accounts payable staff
  • Assist with Payee role and getting clients set up for CDD to be the Payee

Competencies

  • Communication proficiency
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel Word and Outlook and other basic computer operations
  • Strong organizational skills

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma/GED

Preferred Education and Experience

  • One year of related experience
  • Experience with Medicaid certification/DFS systems
  • Experience with DMH ISL budget processes
