The Role
The Corporate Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and month-end close processes ensuring the accuracy of journal entries account reconciliations and supporting schedules. This role will also provide analysis and insight into results to support internal reporting and decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and review month-end close activities including preparation and posting of journal entries.
- Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
- Prepare and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain supporting schedules for accruals prepaids fixed assets intercompany balances and other key accounts.
- Support preparation of internal financial reports variance analyses and management reporting packages.
- Assist with audit samples and financial statement note preparation as required.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS accounting standards and internal accounting policies.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and assist with audit requests.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations FP&A and other departments to ensure proper recording of transactions.
- Assist with ad hoc projects analysis and system improvements as needed.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation (CA CMA or CGA) preferred or in progress.
- Minimum 46 years of progressive accounting experience ideally in a corporate accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and practical application in a business environment.
- Demonstrated experience with month-end close reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Microsoft Business Central) considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
Education
- Bachelors Degree in accounting finance or a related field
