The fundamental reason this classificationexists is to assist Traffic Engineers in performing advanced technicalengineering tasks in the conduct and maintenance of traffic engineering surveysand projects. The work responsibilities include assisting Traffic Engineers inreviewing plats developing plans supervising one or more employees servingas the custodian and subject matter expert for the departments Unmanned AerialSystem (UAS) and collaborating with other traffic divisions to gather data andconduct comprehensive surveys. Work is performed under the supervisionof a Traffic Engineer who ensures technical accuracy. DistinguishingCharacteristics: Positions in this classificationtypically advance from the journey-level Engineering Technician II. When filledfrom outside the organization candidates must possess prior para-professionalengineering experience and expertise. Incumbents in this classificationperform more complex technical support duties that require independent judgmentand initiative. The Engineering Technician III is differentiated from theEngineering Technician II by their involvement in more advanced technicaltasks including para-professional engineering project management and problemsolving. The Engineering Technician III may also provide indirect supervisionto lower-level engineering technicians and report directly to a Senior TrafficEngineer.
HighSchool diploma or G.E.D and five (5) years oftechnical engineering experience in the area of traffic public worksand/or transportation including supervisory experience.
NOTE: Qualifying education training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outdoorsoften in environments with loud noise and hazards related to traffic controland construction including exposure to fast-moving vehicles. Employees mayalso encounter adverse weather conditions such as rain extreme heat or position may require irregular hours including nights weekends orholidays particularly during special events or emergencies. Physicalrequirements include the ability to walk crawl stand bend stoop andoperate a motor vehicle.
