Job Description

Help protect one of Floridas most vital resources water with a career at theSouthwest Florida Water Management District (District).

The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources minimize flood risks and ensure the publics water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law.

You will have the opportunity to support our Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP) Bureau assisting engineers in the ERP Evaluation and Compliance Sections by conducting investigations of water-resource related permitting and compliance activities. This internship will provide you with the opportunity to research files of record review applications generate correspondence conduct construction inspection site visits verify permit compliance and other duties/functions as joining our teamyoull play an important role in enhancing the results to ensure a brighter future for the environment of Florida.

Compensation: $16.00 hourly

Essential Functions

  • Assist engineers in the ERP Evaluation and Compliance Section
  • Conducting investigations of water-resource related permitting and compliance activities
  • Researching files of record
  • Reviewing applications
  • Generating correspondence
  • Construction inspection site visits
  • Verification of permit compliance
  • Other duties/functions as necessary

Working Conditions

Most work is conducted in a standard office environment. This position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to operate a District vehicle for two hours or more at a time. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity as well as a variety of pests including mosquitoes and accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit.

Required Credentials for Environmental Resource Permit Intern Opportunity

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Be at least part-time current enrollment in an accredited college university or other recognized educational or vocational program
  • Maintain a minimum GPAof 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students

Application Process

The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. All applicants are required to complete in full the District employment application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants who are within 30 days of graduation if selected are not allowed to start until all minimum qualifications are met.

This position is typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week out of the Tampa FL office.

Travel Required

travel using District vehicle within Districts coverage area.
