The tutor may conduct informal assessments with children and/or perform other tasks related to improving student performance. This position consists of direct services to children and is a supplement to teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS |
Education: Bachelors Degree
Specialized Knowledge:
- Understanding of adolescent development
- Understanding of adolescents with developmental needs and special abilities
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity equity inclusion and social justice as they relate to student engagement and opportunity
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with adolescents with developmental needs and special abilities preferred
- Experience working in a diverse public high school preferred
- Experience working with students who are English language learners preferred
- Experience with Google Suite (Drive Docs Sheets Slides Classroom etc.) and PowerSchool preferred but will train the right candidate
Skills
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
- Bilingual skills especially in Spanish and Portuguese are highly desirable
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Candidates should have a passion for working with students families and colleagues
- Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
- Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced supportive environment that nurtures student growth
Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to) |

- Work with students at vocational sites to develop strategies for task completion to foster independence based on each students individual needs and recognize and implement necessary modifications as needed.
- Work with students on vocational related tasks vocabulary skill development interviewing skills resume development completion of job application etc.
- Guide monitor and coordinate the daily classroom activities as directed by the transition specialist. May do demonstrations and use classroom equipment.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning styles and behavioral and emotional challenges under the direction and guidance of the transition specialist and special education teachers.
- Assist the transition specialist/special education teacher/case manager with implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications and performs other classroom related tasks.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Listen and communicate effectively and professionally with all students staff and when necessary parents.
- Upon request provides input for team meetings and conferences. Attends meetings as directed by supervisors.
- Facilitate independent task completion using a variety of approaches when providing job coaching at vocational sites and/or participating in community-based lessons.
- Collects data and completes task analysis to be shared with Transition Specialist.
- Implement behavioral plans and use effective behavioral management strategies provided by the special educator and/or transition specialist.
- Anticipate and take action to prevent difficulties and deal calmly flexibly and effectively with challenges asking for help as appropriate
- Assist students to develop their independent skills that are transferable across all settings in social and self-help tasks including dressing eating toileting self-advocacy materials organization social interactions and using conflict resolution strategies through school and at vocational opportunities.
- Assist students in understanding material reviewing concepts and socialization skills. Help students develop positive attitudes toward school and learning and one another along with positive attitudes towards developing skills to build their employability skills.
- Help students develop self-confidence raise self-awareness and reduce anxiety or fear of learning working and independent living. Serve as a role model for students.
- Meet regularly with the transition specialist and consult with other service providers at the discretion of the transition specialist to discuss student needs and plans.
- PCA care/toileting and/or transporting students may also be required.
- Will need to obtain Class 7D license to operate school provided passenger vehicle if required
- Flexible schedule may be required at times not to exceed daily work hours.
- May have to comply with specific vaccinations needed for particular job sites.
- Identifies and addresses bias and its impact on rigor and opportunity for students
- Follow and enforce all School Committee policies and Massachusetts laws
- Any other duties assigned

- move about the classroom school school grounds office and/or off-site locations.

- operate a computer and other school/office productivity machinery (i.e. iPad copy machine computer printer assistive technology etc.);
- read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids;
- position oneself to maintain files and access school/classroom/office materials;
- communicate with others so that information received and given is understood and accurately communicated;
- communicate and collaborate effectively with students parents and other staff members in person via video conference on the telephone and/or in writing;

- multitask and meet multiple demands from several people;
- may need to teach and support students with life skills development such as eating cleaning and toileting
- lifting up to and including 25 lbs
