You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailProvide drainage design for highway projects and related transportation facilities including designs for channels culverts storm sewer systems storm water management facilities and erosion and sediment control plans. Review design work performed by consultants resolve hydraulic-related problems throughout design and construction phases and provide technical leadership in hydraulic design policies and procedures. Conduct training workshops and serve as a subject matter expert for program areas.
Key Responsibilities
Communications: Effectively communicate with internal staff local governments elected officials citizen groups and federal agencies.
Engineering Studies: Conduct or oversee studies collect/analyze data and prepare reports recommendations and technical correspondence. Present findings to staff and stakeholders.
Design Software: Use appropriate hydraulic design software including MicroStation and GEOPAK to integrate hydraulic features into construction plans.
Hydraulic Design: Develop designs for culverts storm sewers channels storm water facilities and erosion/sediment control measures. Ensure designs are functional cost-effective environmentally sound and maintainable.
Policies and Procedures: Contribute to developing and improving policies procedures and practices for proactive program management.
Process Improvements: Recommend and implement process and policy updates to improve compliance and efficiency.
Project Management: Organize and monitor tasks to ensure projects meet schedules budgets and standards. Maintain thorough documentation.
Project Team Participation: Lead or participate in project teams ensuring clear communication and technical accuracy. Address challenges to improve outcomes.
Quality Assurance: Review hydraulic designs prepared by internal staff and consultants. Provide guidance on construction issues serve as technical advisor in legal matters and review scopes and estimates.
Responsible Charge Engineer: Serve as engineer of record in compliance with policies procedures and legal requirements.
Technical Guidance: Develop and update technical procedures and guidelines contribute to design manuals and provide problem-solving expertise. Conduct training and workshops for staff and stakeholders.

Advanced knowledge of civil hydraulic and hydrologic engineering principles.
Ability to apply engineering expertise to complex transportation projects.
Ability to interpret and apply federal state and local regulations.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects make independent decisions and resolve design issues.
Knowledge of roadway design criteria construction methods standards and materials.
Knowledge of storm water management erosion/sediment control and drainage systems.
Skill in using engineering and design software for hydraulics and drainage.
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff consultants contractors citizens and government representatives.
Strong customer service problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Valid Professional Engineers (PE) license.
Experience in roadway and hydraulics design including hydrology and hydraulic modeling (peak discharge open channel flow flood routing culverts storm sewers).
Experience designing stormwater management and erosion/sediment control plans.
Experience interpreting and applying transportation laws standards and specifications.
Experience with roadway construction methods and materials.
Proficiency with engineering and design software.
Strong communication and project management abilities.
Additional Considerations
Certification as Erosion and Sediment Control Program Administrator Inspector or Plan Reviewer.
Experience in transportation engineering roadway drainage design and hydraulic analysis of bridges and major facilities.
Experience with hydraulic modeling software and drainage-related computer applications.
Full Time
