Job Description

The SCADA Specialist is responsible for planning designing developing testing deploying and maintaining programs and process control equipment within the Natural Gas Distribution System and the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) System. This role also includes performing field calibrations troubleshooting and repairing various support devices at gate stations regulator vaults and individual pressure sites.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Participate in the design development and implementation of the SCADA System including controllers HMI software local/remote networking AC/DC electrical troubleshooting project oversight and database maintenance.

  • Recommend and assist with goals standards and security measures for SCADA design and reliability.

  • Administer software programs related to SCADA including management of DPCs RTUs PACs PLCs and HMIs along with backup and revision strategies.

  • Serve as technical lead for SCADA improvements reviewing regulations and coordinating network modifications with capital projects.

  • Install configure and modify hardware/software to improve efficiency safety and productivity.

  • Provide oversight on contracts for upgrades and predictive maintenance.

  • Calibrate flow pressure temperature and other devices in the gas distribution system.

  • Deliver training to controllers and staff as required.

This position requires availability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled and may be designated as essential personnel during emergencies or inclement weather.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Engineering Technology Computer Science or Computer Networking.

  • Three (3) years of process control experience with emphasis in SCADA technology or Natural Gas Distribution (or similar system).

  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certifications

  • Valid Drivers License (must obtain state license within 30 days of hire if applicable).

Preferred Training and Experience

  • Experience developing/servicing a Gas SCADA system (or equivalent).

  • Completion of software development classes for Process Controllers and HMIs.

  • 10 years of experience with Distributed SCADA Systems in gas or water distribution.

  • Working knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming standard.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Access).

  • Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to train and direct others.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical theory and practices digital/analog circuitry SCADA hardware/software (Bristol Babcock Emerson ControlWave) and industry standards.

  • Familiarity with network security wireless/radio communications firewalls routers and HMI/DPC/PAC/PLC applications.

  • Skills in interpreting metrics explaining SCADA optimization reading schematics/flowcharts and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to manage SCADA system design installation and maintenance; analyze complex problems; work safely around high/low voltage equipment; and perform duties in adverse weather conditions.
