POSITION DESCRIPTION:To provide nursing and other health related services for the school population as defined by the school district.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements a comprehensive school health program consistent with applicable statutes regulations policies practices and procedures governing nursing and school health.
- Performs health assessments and implements treatment of students as appropriate.
- Administers medications.
- Provides emergency care in the case of injury or sudden illness.
- Coordinates with the Principal and the Director of Guidance to conduct mental and physical health screenings in accordance with all applicable statutes regulations policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with other professionals team members and community providers to identify students with health-related needs and makes referrals to appropriate resources as required.
- Using the nursing process collaborates with the parent/guardian and student where appropriate to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for the student.
- Assists students families and groups to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education and promotion.
- Serves as a member of pertinent committees and teams.
- Maintains comprehensive school health records.
- Carries out communicable disease prevention and infection control.
- Stays abreast of relevant practices and procedures through an ongoing program of professional development.
- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession and maintenance of a license as a School Nurse from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Possession and maintenance of an unencumbered Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a school nurse and/or working with an adolescent population.
- Possession and maintenance of a current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and First Aid from a recognized provider.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
OUR STUDENTS:Southeastern is a diverse multicultural vocational technical high school that serves over 1600 students from the City of Brockton and eight surrounding towns. Our students balance the rigors of a complete academic course of studies with technical skill training in over 20 career majors. Upon graduation our students are well-prepared for college a career or further technical training.
COMPENSATION:This positionis a school-year and employees are paid in 21 or 26 equal installments from September - June or from the initial start date to the end date.
