Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and teach class contentappropriate tothe course description andintensitylevel.
Provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials.
Monitorparticipantsand is attentiveand alert while instructing.
Provides a safe environment for all participants.
Enforce all general building policies if applicable.
Complete any necessary reports andforms requested.
Attend scheduled meetings asrequired.
Responsible for preparation for program activitiespreparinglesson plansandorganize relevantequipment.
Set-up and break-down materialsand spaceused for instruction.
Responsible for finding a dependableandappropriate substituteupon their absence.
Qualifications
Requires AEAAquatic Fitness ProfessionalCertificationor equivalent.
Adult/Child CPR First Aid and AED certifications are required within 60 days of hire.
Previousinstructional experience preferred
Thorough knowledge of departmental rules and regulationspaired withconsiderable knowledge of the principles practices teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivationin recreational environment.
Working knowledge of rules strategies and skillsandorganizational proceduresassociated withworking withwithin a professional setting and aquatics department.
General knowledge of human anatomy.
Public relations skills.
Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
Planorganize instruct and supervise the assigned program.
Controland leadlarge groups of people.
Follow written and verbal instructionsandremain current on the trends of the industry for which assigned.
Communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skillswhile beingable toanalyze situations quickly and objectively anddetermineproper courses of action to be taken.
Analyze and correct facility safety hazardswrite incident and accident reportsadhere to the facility emergency procedures.
Establishandmaintaineffective working relationshipswhile working witha high levelof autonomy.
Hours of Work Location and Work Environment
This position is part-time and hours will vary according to class needs. Work will be performed at the City of Wheat Ridge Recreation Center and/or Anderson Pool. Work primarily performed in hot wet and humid environment with chemical smell. During Summer months work may be at an outdoor facility and will include exposure to all types of weather. Work requires strength and stamina necessary to rescue distressed swimmers. Work requires extended periods of hearing and speaking; requires working in chemically treated water and public relations skills in handling parental concerns and complaints. The work also entails working closely with co-workers and cooperating inutilizingthe various areas of the pool. Must be able to work in environment with poor acoustics array of distractions i.e. music weather conditions. Work also involves climbing frequent sitting intermittently sitting standing or stoopingstandingor walking; requires ability to liftfrequentlyobject of less than 25lbs and occasionally weighing up to and over 50 lbs. Work requires considerable muscular exertion and/or physical strain as well as continuous intense mental concentration and/or visual attention. This position will use aquatic Fitness equipment including dumbbells noodles belts kickboards etc.
