Duties and Responsibilities (*denotes Essential Functions):

  • *Under the direction of the Access Services Manager provides supervisory leadership and oversight of all Circulation services of the UH West Oahu Library. These operations include but are not limited to: Fulfillment course reserves; intra-system requesting and lending basic information and general reference.
  • *Maintains office presence and serves as the initial contact for circulation services.
  • *Supervises library operations in the evenings.
  • *Applies copyright laws and guidelines for course reserves. Notifies and works with instructors to resolve problems.
  • *Provides instruction on the use of library equipment and resources in all formats for patrons as well as library staff. Maintains and troubleshoots computers copiers printers and equipment.
  • *Responsible for the collection and deposit of fines fees and lost item transactions.
  • *Hires trains directly supervises and evaluates all student workers. Determines plans and monitors work assignments.
  • *Conducts student worker orientation.
  • Processes requests for library materials in and out-of-state including distance learners.
  • Resolves problems as they arise at the service desk and uses independent judgment in decision making.
  • Assists with the displays and promotion of library materials.
  • Assists with inventory of library collection.
  • Assists in the coordination of the library technology lending program.
  • Assists in coordination with faculty staff student organizations and outside groups using the library for public displays tours and other special events.
  • Serves as the librarys representative on campus and/or system-wide committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business humanities social sciences or related field and six (6) months of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for library services; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of library circulation policies demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with library services operations.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of customer services operations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software use spreadsheet and/or other office productivity software such as Microsoft Excel.


Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Supervisory experience including but not limited to scheduling shifts training employees planning and organizing tasks etc.
  2. Cashiering and cash handling experience with the ability to balance out a register and allocate funds appropriately and accurately.
  3. Experience working with a library system that includes various modules such as fulfillment (circulation) course reserves public access catalog reporting matrices software upgrades and patron loads.
  4. Excellent organizational time management and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  6. Ability to work evenings and weekends.


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Banner.
  2. Experience with the Alma platform specifically Fulfillment and Course Reserves.
  3. Experience with providing reference and assisting students with their research needs.
  4. Experience with data management presentation and visualization.
  5. Possess a high degree of initiative sound judgment and resourcefulness.
  6. Demonstrated professional work experience in an academic library setting.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to information services in Hawaii.
