Job Duties

Position contributes to the departments mission of public safety. Receives information and complaints from employees inmates and the general public regarding suspicious and/or observations of crimes or violations of laws rules regulations and policies; investigates allegations and reports incidents to the Institutional Investigator. Conducts investigations on all assignments received from the Institutional Investigator. Gives assistance and directions to staff and inmates. Communicates with management staff visitors inmates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and the public. Supervises and monitors staff on assigned shifts and posts to ensure the safety and security of the public and facility. Completes required training. Identify monitor and track all Gang and Security Threat Group (STG) activity. Maintains a safe and productive workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Drivers License. Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification. Knowledge of criminal investigation methods and techniques and security procedures. Working knowledge and understanding of correctional policies procedures and practices. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Skilled in interviewing suspects and witnesses to obtain pertinent information. Demonstrated ability to collect and preserve a crime scene and evidence. Demonstrated ability to produce written reports. Prior investigation background. Coursework in criminal justice or related field from an accredited community college university or equivalent training or experience. Investigative or law enforcement related experiences.
