Controls Engineering Intern Omaha NE

This posting is for Summer 2026 Internship opportunities.

Join IMEG as a Controls Engineering Intern in Omaha NE and start your career designing advanced automation and control systems that make industrial processes safer smarter and more efficient. Youll collaborate with engineers across disciplines work directly with clients and gain hands-on experience in both office-based design and onsite system commissioning. From developing PLC/SCADA programming to supporting field start-ups this role offers a balance of technical design problem-solving and real-world implementationalong with mentorship training and opportunities to grow from day one.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing discipline-specific systems per code and IMEG standards

  • Produce control documents including IO lists connection schedules loop drawings and schematics

  • Support client relations maintain project design notebooks and prepare permanent record documentation

  • Coordinate design and schedules with other disciplines and suppliers

  • Document design decisions meetings and client instructions while tracking progress

  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final checks

  • Prepare and issue addendum information

  • Conduct job site observations and perform services per contract requirements

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Strong interest in design consulting

  • Previous exposure to AutoCAD Electrical software

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Controls Team Highlights:

  • Design and program PLC and SCADA systems for industries like water treatment manufacturing and chemical processing

  • Work on both sides of the project: develop schematics and specifications in the office then help implement and test them onsite

  • Gain experience with AutoCAD Electrical P&ID creation and industrial automation programming (Rockwell and other platforms)

  • Collaborate closely with process mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver fully integrated solutions

Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience knowledge skills and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). This information is being provided in compliance with local laws.
