Salary is 5% less during the trainee period $27.26 hourl hourly rate after successful completion of the Trainee period (up to 24 months) is $28.69 per hour.
Latent Print Examiners collect preserve examine and compare latent print evidence with known inked prints to establish positive identification of persons. Incumbents perform computer-assisted inked print to inked print and latent print to inked print comparisons identifications and verifications and enter related demographic data into the Arizona Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AZAFIS).

Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. Performs computer-assisted and manual latent print to inked print and inked print to inked print comparisons identifications and verifications;
Enters latent print images and demographics from latent lift cards into computer remote workstation;
Performs computer-assisted latent print enhancement using digital cameras scanners and specialized software;
Conducts laboratory examinations of physical evidence including weapons explosive devices and human remains for fingerprints palm prints footprints and glove and cloth impressions using powders fumes chemicals and laboratory equipment;
Photographs preserves and secures latent print evidence;
Coordinates latent print evidence with other law enforcement agencies;
Prepares detailed fingerprint comparison displays;
Provides expert testimony in court and at pre-trial conferences regarding the positive identification of persons through latent print examinations and the science of fingerprint examinations;
Instructs law enforcement personnel in advanced techniques for developing and identifying latent prints;
Writes reports on scientific analyses of evidence for latent prints and other print comparisons;
Maintains confidential files of known suspects fingerprints latent prints and evidence received and processed;
Researches tests creates and refines methods for developing processing preserving and identifying latent prints;
Rolls files and searches for inked fingerprints;
Participates and instructs others in procedures for processing physical evidence at crime scenes;
Makes post-mortem identification through fingerprint analysis;
Provides technical supervision at the crime scene;
Creates and maintains latent print Standard Operating Procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of eighty (80) hours of International Association for Identification (IAI) Latent Print Certification Board approved formal training in latent print examination/comparison AND one year of full-time experience in latent print examination/comparison.

Minimum ten (10) years experience as a Fingerprint Technician with Pima County Sheriff Department.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

License and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. All incumbents must obtain AZAFIS Latent Print Operator Certification and ACJIS Network Terminal Operator Certification within six months from appointment and must maintain this certification as a condition of employment. All positions require qualifying for and maintaining current membership in the International Association for Identification (IAI) and must currently have or obtain their certification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) through the IAI within twenty-four (24) months of appointment and must maintain this certification as a condition of employment.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. All positions require the successful completion of a background investigation due to need for access to law enforcement detention and/or correctional facilities or associated confidential information documents and evidentiary materials. Department of Labor regulation CFR Part 1910.1030 requires notification that this category may have a high risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Hepatitis B vaccine will be provided. The Pima County Trainee Programprovides training related to the basic knowledge skills and abilities required by the classification to enable the Trainee to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification within the time limits of the program. The Trainee Program lasts a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 24 months. During the trainee period the incumbent is paid 5 percent less than the entry-level salary for the position.An eligible individual is any person interested in a Trainee Program opportunity who: (1) Does not meet the minimum qualification at the time it is announced but is able to do so by the end of the training period OR (2) does meet the minimum qualifications but is not competitive enough to pass selective criteria.Trainees are eligible for a non-competitive transition into the regular classified position upon successful completion of the program. Physical/Sensory Work Requirements: Incumbents are required to: lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty pounds; work in extremes of heat moisture and humidity; properly wear required safety clothing/equipment; perceive the full range of the color spectrum; observe small detail under high magnification for prolonged periods of time; accurately focus photographic lenses and examine line/shape detail and discern differences/similarities between form.
