Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center ( LSUHSC ) in conjunction with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Manning Family Childrens in New Orleans seeks a physician with expertise in stem cell transplantation. The physician will help continue the growth of the robust cancer and blood disorders program. A clinical focus in stem cell transplant cell or gene therapy is required. An additional fellowship in stem cell transplant is recommended but not required if the candidate has experience . A commitment to academic medicine and scholarship is expected. The prospective candidate will join our team of 11 pediatric hematologist-oncologists 5 APPs 2 oncology pharmacists 2 social workers and dedicated child life specialists. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible (or equivalent) in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. We are actively involved in Childrens Oncology Group ( COG ) Alliance Cancer Trials and other cooperative networks. Candidates with interest in health equity clinical innovation and program building are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana at the time of initial appointment. Academic appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Associate Professor or Professor (non-tenure clinical track) as determined by the candidates experience and scholarly achievements. This roles key responsibilities include providing expert clinical care in stem cell transplantation; providing inpatient coverage for the pediatric hematology oncology service (24 hematology-oncology beds); establishing an outpatient stem cell transplantation clinic; participating in pediatric tumor boards and institutional clinical trial efforts; educating and mentoring medical students residents and pediatric hematology oncology fellows as part of LSUHSCs academic mission; engaging in scholarly activity including clinical or translational research in pediatric malignancies and/or blood diseases including sickle cell disease; supporting quality improvement initiatives and help expand access to stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies across the Gulf South region. Manning Family Childrens is the only freestanding childrens hospital in Louisiana and serves as the primary pediatric teaching site for LSUHSC Pediatrics.
