Arizona State Parks and Trails protects and preserves 30 State Parks and Natural Areas. The agency also includes the State Trails Program outdoor-related Grants Program the State Historic Preservation Office as well as the Off-Highway Vehicle Program and more. Arizona State Parks and Trails provides over 1400 camping and RV sites throughout the parks and manages 8 of the top 25 most visited natural attractions in Arizona.

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Family Campout Program Manager this position serves as a coordinator of the Family Campout Program a program that introduces camping and outdoor recreational adventures to families that have little or no experience enabling them to broaden their enjoyment in the outdoors and camping for years to come. Provide general and educational information to camp participants regarding camping; environmental issues; natural cultural and personal safety; and how to be good stewards in preserving our natural resources.

Job Duties:

Consults and coordinates with the Family Campout Team to plan and organize Family Campout events to showcase each parks unique features. Prepare event schedule while coordinating Family Campout Program Manager. Coordinate special event presentations for each park. Continually analyze and research new methods participates in conferences training or workshops to develop interpretive programs and regular programs to incorporate into these event that emphasize safety fun respect and etiquette.

Recruit onboard retain and supervise an excellent group of volunteers to assist in the success of each Family Campout. Coordinate volunteers to participate at each event ensuring each volunteer is fully trained and understands their role and duties.

Prepare pack set-up for each individual weekend campout; Greet all campers and provide instruction on how to set-up their individual campsite camping etiquette and family work assignments. Schedule includes recreational instructional and a special service event that supports the park hosting the event. Tear down and cleanup. Post-Campout: Unpack clean repair replenish and repack for the next campout. May lead and assist in training subordinate staff and/or volunteers.

Network with both corporate and private donors who will support the program through the donation of goods and monies. Identify supply needs based on campers and volunteers. Create and builds various tool and games for attendees.

Responsible for maintaining truck trailer storage camping/activity equipment i.e. organizations repair shelves as needed replace needs to equipment monitor tire changes on truck and trailer.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Applicable program regulations and Park rules and regulations.
Basic construction electrical carpentry and plumbing; Vehicle operation towing and maintenance;
Basic use of hand tools and power tools; Basic first aid; Park rules and regulations
Computer fundamentals (e.g. word processing data-entry web-base reservation etc.)
Customer service;

Skill in:
Leadership and team interaction; Problem solving

Public speaking
Volunteer recruitment and engagement

Ability to:

respond to occasional park emergencies;

Operate a one-ton truck and pull a trailer.

Selective Preference(s):

A bachelors degree in Park Management Natural Resources Management Recreation Education or closely related field. and/or 5 or more years of experience in park operations or interpretive elated field.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Drivers license appropriate to assignment. Require certification verifying completion of OHV Safety program within 6 months of hire.
