The North Carolina State Highway Patrols primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as addition to enforcing the states traffic laws state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

The primary purpose of the Electronics Technician II (Radio Engineer I) position within the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is to provide maintenance of mobile and portable telecommunications equipment in the state and patrol vehicles. The assigned workstation is Troop H Headquarters Radio Shop in Monroe NC (Union County).

Job duties/responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Installing managing programming maintaining troubleshooting repairing and/or exchanging modules in the following equipment:

  • Mobile and portable voice/data transmitting and receiving equipment.

  • Mobile Data Computers (MDC).

  • Digital processed speed measuring instruments.

  • Mobile and fixed video surveillance equipment.

  • Mobile emergency lighting and warning systems.

  • Mobile antennas.

  • Special electronics and telecommunications testing equipment and associated electronic electrical and mechanical equipment.

Analytical and Problem solving:

  • Diagnosing and repairing diverse electronic and telecommunications equipment.

  • Continuously learning and adapting to evolving methods processes and protocols.

  • Reading and comprehending technical manuals and reference materials.

  • Gaining and applying knowledge of NCSHP rules regulations policies procedures directives documentation training materials and geographic areas.

License:

Electronics Technician positions require the possession of or the ability to obtain (within first year of employment) a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License within an or the equivalent that authorizes the establishment operation and repair of fixed/mobile voice/data transceivers communication networks speed enforcement devices and support the NCSHP telecommunications system.

  • Experience with working 12V vehicle electronic systems
  • Experience with installation of telecommunications equipment (including modems GPS radio transceivers).
  • Experience with assembly of vehicles.
  • Experience with disassembly of vehicles.
  • Experience using Microsoft software applications (Outlook Word Excel)

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems including some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Based on the nature of work performed may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
