About the Opportunity
Summary
The Team Lead in our Kookums Healing Home will assist the Healing Home Supervisor in both the daily operation and development of the home. They will work collaboratively with other team members supervisors and other Programs etc. to participate within an open-minded strengths based trauma informed relational child and youth care approach framework that promotes the cultivation and mobilization of youth strengths potential and capacity for growth. They will provide programming inclusive to all youth and practice a policy of open-mindedness and inclusion regarding culture and ceremony for children and youth and their care providers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:of the Team Lead include but are not limited to:

  • Provides coverage for the Kookums Healing Home Supervisor during scheduled absences fulfilling all responsibilities of the Healing Home Supervisor
  • Completes administrative duties as assigned by the Healing Home Supervisor; these duties may include;

oAssisting with interviewing and hiring of Youth Care Practitioners

oScheduling coordinating and training casual Youth Care Practitioners

oOrientation for new staff

oCoordinating the distribution of information to the team

oScheduling meetings and home maintenance

oPerforming financial and purchasing responsibilities such as replenishing household supplies and managing petty cash

oOngoing mentorship to Youth Care Practitioners

  • Participates in on-going professional development to increase knowledge in the field and increase skill level to continue meeting developing employment needs
  • Participate in meetings as required promote positive teamwork and exhibit a high degree of positive role modelling for young people
  • Supports the program to reflect The Link treatment philosophy organizational and Human Resource policies and program protocols; including representing the program and the organization in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the Child and Family Services system in Manitoba particularly in the context of Indigenous communities and the impacts of inter-generational and historical trauma
  • Create or support an environment of collaboration while still contributing and sharing credit freely with the team

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should demonstrate the following competencies which incorporate the Seven Sacred Teachings:

  • Child and Youth Care Worker diploma or certificate (or equivalent certificate or diploma) and a minimum of 4 years experience in the youth care field.
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for issues and concerns of Indigenous peoples within a child welfare environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software and the ability to operate in a networked environment; which may include writing incident reports develop and edit documents and correspond with emails.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge awareness and respect of Indigenous cultures languages traditions and practices.
  • Must have knowledge experience and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions.
  • Must provide services through an Indigenous lens that is holistic and focuses on the strengths and experiences of Indigenous children youth families and communities.
  • Knowledge of history and impact of intergenerational barriers and oppression faced by Indigenous people.
  • Knowledge of systems for children in care school and family functioning and child welfare preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; Ability to adapt to changing circumstances or conditions with flexibility and compassion.
  • Ability to reflect or seek guidance to ensure support given is representative of the organizations mission and values.

Conditions of Employment

  • ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) preferred or willing to obtain;
  • Crisis de-escalation Training preferred or willing to obtain;
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C or willingness to obtain;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check all done within the last 3 months;
  • Valid class 5F drivers license and acceptable drivers abstract (subject to approval).

Working Hours:Full-Time 80 hours position is required to work a variety of shifts including days evenings sometimes overnights weekends and holidays.

Salary Range:$19.00 - $21.00 per hour including access to paid vacation paid sick leave paid personal days benefit plan and pension plan when eligible.
