Records Technician City of Detroit Lakes Police Department
Hourly Wage: $23.81 - $31.20
Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt Benefit-Eligible
Position Overview
The City of Detroit Lakes is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Records Technician to join our Police Department. This position provides a wide range of clerical administrative and technical support to ensure accurate records management and smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process officer reports; forward to prosecuting attorney.
- Prepare record and maintain a variety of reports forms and citations.
- Enter and manage data in the Records Management System; generate reports.
- Operate NCIC Criminal Justice Data Network NIBRS and Uniform Crime Reports systems.
- Provide information to the public officers and government agencies.
- Answer phones and assist walk-in visitors; determine urgency and coordinate responses.
- Assist command staff with administrative support correspondence scheduling and supply management.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Post-high school education/training in office procedures bookkeeping records management data processing or related field.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with computers and office software; strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Minnesota Drivers License or equivalent.
- Must obtain and maintain CJIS and BCA certification.
Desired Skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective public relations skills with the ability to handle emotional or hostile individuals.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of City geography (or ability to learn quickly).
