The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist to contribute to the labs strategic vision by driving multicenter collaboration advancing trial methodology and disseminating impactful research through publications grants and presentations. This position will will independently plan and manage research in cerebrovascular and neurointerventional science with a strong emphasis on the design execution and oversight of clinical trials.
Job Duties:
Contribute to the scientific design and execution of clinical trials in cerebrovascular and neurointerventional research including development of study protocols case report forms and analytic strategies.
Provide scientific oversight of ongoing clinical trials ensuring methodological rigor regulatory compliance and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Lead the development of innovative trial designs for cerebrovascular and neurointerventional research.
- Coordinate and liaise with national and international trial sites sponsors CROs and collaborators supporting large-scale multicenter studies.
Conduct and oversee data collection and preparation integrating clinical imaging and outcome datasets to address key research questions.
Analyze data using advanced statistical methods and contribute to optimization of computational analysis pipelines.
- Present results at departmental seminars professional meetings and international conferences.
Collaborate in the preparation and submission of grant applications contributing to the formulation of scientific aims study designs and methodological approaches.
Participate in contract negotiation budgeting and administrative processes ensuring alignment between scientific and operational trial needs.
Supervise laboratory staff and provide coaching and feedback to assure outcomes are achieved.
Provide mentorship and training to medical students residents fellows and junior researchers in both clinical trial methodology and research practice.

Pay grade: 5A - note: This is a specified term position that will last 12 months. An extension may be reviewed after the initial 12 months but is not guaranteed.
The Cerebrovascular and Neurointerventional Research Laboratory is dedicated to pioneering advancements in the field of Neurointerventional surgery. Our research team is deeply committed to enhancing clinical practices and outcomes for patients suffering from a spectrum of cerebrovascular disorders including stroke aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage unruptured aneurysms carotid artery disease cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and other related conditions. Through our focused clinical research we strive to forge new frontiers in endovascular treatments and patient care.
Required Qualifications:
- MD or PhD in Neuroscience or related field
- 3 years postdoctoral research experience in neuroscience
- Record of peer-reviewed publications
- Experience working with clinical trials
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience setting up maintaining and troubleshooting experimental preparations
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in cerebrovascular research or neurointerventional surgery research
- Familiarity with Epic
- Knowledge of best practices for the management of large data sets
