Coordinator of Youth Ministry

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Coordinator of Youth Ministry is a lay ecclesial minister who has the pastors delegated responsibility and authority to develop and implement the vision and coordination of the parishs efforts in ministry to young people. This includes weekly gatherings monthly activities mission trips regional/national/international events and catechesis. This person is responsible for designing developing and implementing programs and events to enhance and foster the faith formation of the youth. This responsibility may be exercised in collaboration with parish staff members who share the responsibility of catechesis. The Coordinator of Youth Ministry performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission vision and values of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Under the Pastors direction develops and coordinates programs to integrate adolescent catechesis.
- Advocates for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry based on the USCCB document Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry; the US Bishops Pastoral Plan for Ministry of Young Adults Sons and Daughters of the Light; as well as Listen Teach Send.
- Acts as a role model and collaborates with the faith community to implement the components of Catholic youth ministry.
- Leads in group and individual prayer. Enables young people to celebrate and deepen their relationship with the triune God through individual and communal prayer and participation in the liturgical life of the church.
- Facilitates the Youth Leadership Team (Core Team) which is responsible for planning implementing and evaluating a comprehensive youth ministry program.
- Works with the parishs Safe Environment Coordinator and the Office of Safe Environment at the Chancery to implement age-appropriate programs (Virtus) for youth.
- With an acute sense of urgency is responsible for being very knowledgeable on all policies related to the diocesan Safe Environment Program and ensures that all employees and volunteers under his/her charge are background checked remain updated on their background check before they work with youth and prior to travel on youth trips.
- Coordinates the recruitment training support and evaluation of volunteers in the youth ministry program.
- Fosters the involvement of young people in the life of the parish including being involved in parish activities.
- Develops schedules and/or facilitates courses and retreats. Speaks and gives presentations on the teachings of the church and forms others in the faith.
- Works with the Pastor to develop effective marketing campaigns for workshops retreats classes and other offerings. Writes press releases event postings and other materials for information in media and intranet updating periodically and according to need.
- Works with parish for setup and preparation of rooms for events including compiling materials for distribution and making catering arrangements if needed.
- Demonstrates characteristics and qualities desired of a Roman Catholic lay leader including excellent character integrity and support of the teachings and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of St. Augustine. Demonstrate fidelity and support of Church leadership.
- Assists with parish responsibilities as assigned with confidentiality and discretion demonstrating excellent internal and external customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education Certification and Experience.
Knowledge Skills Abilities
- Practicing Catholic in good standing and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community. Must have the ability to respect promote accommodate and not be in conflict with the mission moral and social teachings doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Knowledge of and the ability to convey effectively the official teaching of the Church in the areas of Scripture doctrine morality and spirituality with a demonstrated fidelity to these teachings.
- Knowledge of church documents relating to youth ministry particularly the 1997 USCCB document Renewing The Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry; the US Bishops Pastoral Plan for Ministry of Young Adults Sons and Daughters of the Light; and Listen Teach Send.
- Experience in planning and facilitating youth activities retreats and events.
- Knowledge of current youth culture issues and trends.
- Ability to proficiently communicate in English. Bi-lingual Spanish (conversing writing and reading) preferred.
- Some proficiency in MS Outlook Word and PowerPoint; Excel is a plus.
- Must have very good presentation skills with experience in speaking at training events seminars or workshops.
- Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and maintain this clearance throughout employment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients vendors employees and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
