Job Description

Note that depending on qualifications this position can be filled at either a Building Inspector or Senior Building Inspector

Performs mid-level work. Work involves performing highly skilled work in the inspection and enforcement of mechanical electrical plumbing building zoning sign codes and ordinances. Provides respectful courteous and customer-friendly inspection services to residents property owners the building community and ensures the general safety of the public. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications


Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of inspection work experience in building inspection or the construction field.
Required Certificate and Licenses
  • Must obtain a state plumber inspector license within one year from hire date.
  • Must obtain an International Code Council (ICC) Building Certification within one year from the date of hire.
  • A valid Texas Drivers License Class C with an acceptable driving record or equivalent from another US state. (Approximately 50% driving time in a company vehicle.)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years or more of inspection work experience in building inspection or the construction field.
  • State of Texas plumber inspector license.
  • Certified in International Code Council (ICC) as a building plumbing or combination inspector.
  • Municipality work experience.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk and sit. May be required to lift up to 10 pounds climb ladders bend stoop and crawl during inspections which may occur in various weather vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (moderate loud very loud).
