Join the Environment and Climate Resilience team where youll be a key advisor in shaping the City of Edmontons environmental and climate objectives. Were looking for a professional to guide our work on a range of critical projects. You will prepare and present research considerations related to environmental assessments for air water soil ecology climate and energy transition all while developing the strategic plans that underpin our climate reviews. Your expertise will directly inform policy and guide the citys future.
Reporting to a Senior Environmental Project Manager on the Strategy and Planning Unit the Environmental Project Advisor will apply their strong research and analytical skills to review programs projects and policies presented to City Council assessing their environment and climate impacts. The work you do will enhance City decision-making and directly contribute to the commitments identified in the Citys Environmental and Climate Resilience Policies as well as the Community Energy Transition Strategy and the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategy. A key part of this role involves supporting comprehensive environmental and climate reviews of City projects and plans that are presented in reports to Council.
What will you do
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis that will support environment and climate reviews for reports submitted to Council and senior leadership including summarizing relevant information from previous reports
- Apply a broad understanding of various environmental considerations (such as climate resilience air water soil and ecology) to develop plans for these reviews
- Engage with project teams and report writers across the organization using a client-service approach to help them embed environmental protection and climate resilience into their work
- Manage maintain and improve tracking systems for the Environment and Climate Review process communicating with various departments to ensure conformance
- Work with Senior Environmental Project Managers within the Strategy and Planning Unit to build capacity across the organization by developing and supporting training sessions for internal staff
- Provide analytical and project coordination support for other section projects (as required) including research information synthesis and assisting with engagement events to foster collaboration
- University degree in business administration public administration environmental sciences or a related field
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of: strategic and operational business planning working with corporate performance measures and budgets and business case development. Leadership and project management experience within a public sector environment would be beneficial
Assets:
- Experience and/or training in a wide range of environmental subjects including climate resilience environmental regulations water quality air quality energy management carbon accounting emissions modelling land development or environmental management systems
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex environmental scientific information and translate it effectively for project teams and decision-makers
- Strong political acumen with the ability to navigate politically sensitive situations building an environment of trust and respect and fostering positive change
- Proven planning and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively often with constant deadline pressures
- Knowledge of climate change mitigation adaptation and environmental risk assessment processes
- Continuously advocating for environmental and climate change and improvements in a manner that aligns with City Councils priorities and the Citys plans policies and strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental legislation and regulations as well as local regional national and global sustainability and climate resilience issues.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate with a variety of partners to gather and share information
- Experience and/or training in a wide range of environmental subjects such as climate change climate adaptation environmental regulations water quality energy management and carbon accounting
- Experience in contract management and procurement.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Google Sheets.

Work Environment:
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week
Salary Range: $50.108 - $63.318 (Hourly); $88277.77 - $111550.49 (Annually)
