Job Summary:

Health Sciences Scientists may function in the role of Basic Clinical Data Social or Educational Science. Focus of work is independent and collaborative in the study and analysis of research to refine and develop new methods to enrich healthcare.

Department Summary:

The Division of Genetic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology is a robust and dynamic division innovating across its research and clinical missions to integrate genome variation and function to better define biological mechanisms of human disease.

A leader in personalized medicine the division aims to understand how basic molecular biochemical and cellular processes are altered in various pathological conditions seeking to identify novel therapeutic interventions for human diseases.

The division is closely tied to the Vanderbilt Genetics Institute which leads the nation in mapping the complex interactions between our genome and human health.

JOB SUMMARY

Health Sciences Scientists function in one of the following Career Tracks (please refer to job description for each):

  • Basic Scientists are focused on high-level scientific research and development investigative experiments data analysis and formal data presentation. This position may include the expectation of necessary skills to manage day-to-day operations of the laboratory and its personnel.

  • Clinical Scientists conduct clinical research across all investigative phases and ensures the quality and integrity of data and safe and proper management of study parameters. Exercises a high degree of creativity foresight and mature judgment in planning organizing and guiding extensive clinical research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.

  • Data Scientists perform detailed analysis of large bodies of heterogeneous data to discover new patterns and insights having an impact upon patient health or augmenting human capabilities. Data Scientists have deep expertise in the methods used to analyze data and deep knowledge of data types topics and scientific challenges and approaches that will be used to help inform and define new products experiences and technologies. This position works in conjunction with Data Science and Informatics faculty to provide technical thought leadership and works closely with Informatics and IT teams to create data and intelligence driven systems to solve complex client problems.

  • Social Scientists work on collaborative research teams to solve real-world problems producing objective scientific analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports to guide policymakers on a diverse set of issues. Researchers work in multidisciplinary teams that include health policy researchers economists natural scientists epidemiologists social scientists and others with relevant training. They apply rigorous empirical research designs to analyze health policy issues and evaluate programs.

  • Education Scientists focus on independently developing supporting and executing training curriculum and materials including providing administrative guidance and support to trainees at all levels designing and supporting programs for educational outreach and creating opportunities to enrich the healthcare pipeline.
