Youth Sewing Class Instructor
Whats the Job We are seeking a passionate and skilled Youth Sewing Class Instructor to lead a variety of engaging and educational sewing classes for youth aged 6-13. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children strong sewing skills (machine and hand) and the ability to create a fun and supportive learning environment. All materials and machines will be provided.
What You Get: Youll earn $20.50 for every hour you work and get a free gym membership at 4500 Fitness! When Youll Work: The Youth Sewing Class Instructor role is a part-time year-round position. This position will typically work two Tuesday evenings per season. Each class is approximately 2 hours long but the shift will be a total of 3.25 hours (with 45 minutes of set up and 30 minutes of clean up). For the fall 2025 season class dates and topics (as found below) are pre-determined. Future seasons may offer more flexibility depending on your schedule. - Tuesday 9/23 from 6:00-8:00pm (Intro to Machine Sewing)
- Tuesday 10/7 from 6:00-7:30pm (Hand Sewing)
- Tuesday 11/4 from 6:00-8:00pm (Intro to Machine Sewing)
- Tuesday 11/18 from 6:00-8:00pm (Parent/Child Machine Sewing)
- Tuesday 12/2 from 6:00-8:00pm (Intro to Machine Sewing)
What Youll Do: - Plan and lead seasonal sewing classes for youth adapting lessons to different age groups and skill levels.
- Teach basic to intermediate sewing techniques including fabric cutting hand stitching and machine sewing.
- Assist participants in the creation of projects such as pillowcases or small decorative items. Offer guidance and encouragement to students while fostering creativity and problem-solving.
- Manage classroom behavior and ensure all equipment is used properly.
Qualifications: - Must be at least 18 years old.
- Proficiency in sewing both by hand and with a machine.
- Exhibit problem-solving abilities adaptability safety awareness good judgement and willingness to learn.
- Possess good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and program participants especially children.
- Prior experience leading childrens activities and strong classroom management skills preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certified within 90 days (training provided by Park District if needed).
