GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Agriculture Analytical Services Laboratory is searching for a Laboratory Scientist I with knowledge and experience in chemistry. This position will perform a variety of chemical analyses on meat human and animal food fertilizer pesticide complaint samples forage hemp water and fuel. This environmental laboratory performs a wide range of analyses from benchtop wet chemistry to testing on highly complex instrumentation. The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited uses standard analytical methods and provides a valuable service to Wyoming and regional residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.


  • Performs routine and non-routine analytical analyses in the analytical chemistry laboratory on a variety of environmental samples.
  • Operates highly complex analyzers and performs manual tests following detailed instructions using safe good laboratory practice.
  • Responsibilities in the water chemistry laboratory to perform analysis on water samples.
  • Follows standard analytical procedures while handling hazardous or infectious materials.
  • Develops maintains and revises laboratory documents or policies.
  • Develops new or revised test methods standard operation procedures and laboratory policies.
  • Works independently under minimal supervision.
  • Responds to requests for information from the public and departmental personnel.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to the applicant with a degree in chemistry.


KNOWLEDGE:




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Science)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in a medical or environmental laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Laboratory Assistant
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in a medical or environmental laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Laboratory Assistant
