Position: Boys Varsity Head Tennis Coach

Responsibilities

The Boys Tennis Varsity Head Coach works under the direction of the Director of Athletics. This applicant should be a creative motivator have effective communication skills and possess a positive coaching style. This person must also set expectations for the boys tennis program while maintaining strong healthy relationships with students parents teachers and administrators.

Terms of employment: Contract

Season: Spring (February - May)

Practices: Monday through Friday 3:45 to 5:30 p.m.

Contests: Times vary

Compensation: $23 - $25/hr

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • Establishment of Program Philosophy - The head coach is responsible for establishing a program philosophy (philosophy skills techniques..) that will be shared with all program levels and students and families. All athletic department philosophies including those of effort teamwork and sportsmanship should also be shared with our coaches student-athletes and parent communities.
  • Scheduling - The head coach will be responsible for establishing all non-league matches tournaments or games for the varsity JV and freshman levels. All schedules must be approved and reviewed by the athletic director.
  • Engage robustly in fostering diversity equity and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment.
  • AttendanceThe head coach is responsible for attending all required school league and section meetings and adequately preparing for them.
  • Coaching Candidates - The head coach assists the athletic director in finding and interviewing potential coaching candidates in his/her sport.
  • Pre-Season Program - The head coach will coordinate a pre-season conditioning/lifting program.
  • Knowledge - The head coach is responsible for understanding all sport school league section and state rules and bylaws.
  • PracticeThe head coach is responsible for preparing for daily practice with a written practice plan attending daily practice and coaching our student-athletes in proper and correct techniques.
  • Meetings - The head coach is responsible for planning pre-season meetings with his coaching staff to discuss philosophy expectations teaching techniques the upcoming year and any other issues that they see as relevant.
  • Support StaffThe head coach is responsible for coordinating the programs support staff (team managers statisticians film crew etc.).
  • Tryouts - The head coach will administer a tryout period for their sport. The tryout period must last at least five practices and students must be given a list of items they will be evaluated on during this tryout period.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Previous high school coaching or equivalent;
  • Ability to supervise student-athletes;
  • Ability to take instruction from head coach and execute practice plan as needed;
  • Drivers license insurance and ability to drive school van;
  • CPR certification (provided by Polytechnic School Athletic Department);
  • Completion of CIF Coaches Principle Course NFHS Concussion Course NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (provided by Polytechnic School Athletic Department);
  • Instill the values of good character and fair play along with acting as a positive role model.
