Job Summary
The Data Center Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operational integrity availability and performance of the organizations data center infrastructure. This includes overseeing server hardware networking equipment cooling systems power management and implementing best practices for system uptime and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor maintain and troubleshoot data center infrastructure including servers storage systems network devices and environmental systems (cooling power etc..
Ensure the physical and cyber security of data center assets and enforce access controls.
Perform hardware installations upgrades and decommissions.
Manage capacity planning cabling and rack layouts.
Respond to and resolve critical incidents promptly maintaining detailed documentation.
Collaborate with IT teams to deploy and support applications and services.
Assist with audits compliance checks and implementation of disaster recovery procedures.
Maintain inventory and asset tracking systems.
Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recurring tasks.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
8 years of handson experience in a data center or similar IT infrastructure environment.
Proficient in hardware systems (e.g. Dell HPE Cisco UCS) structured cabling and network protocols.
Familiarity with HVAC UPS PDUs and other critical environmental systems.
Strong understanding of networking (LAN/WAN TCP/IP DNS DHCP).
Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware HyperV) is a plus.
Experience with monitoring and ticketing tools (e.g. SolarWinds ServiceNow).
Desirable Skills
Certifications such as CompTIA Server Network Cisco CCNA or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator.
Experience with scripting or automation (e.g. PowerShell Python).
Ability to work independently and handle 24/7 oncall duties as needed.
