Job description:
The Commercial Mechanical Engineer specializes in identifying product requirements
(labels markers valve tags etc.) for commercial projects based on design scope and
client specifications. Working under a lead estimator the role includes conducting Material
Take Offs (MTOs) mentoring junior staff and contributing to continuous improvement
initiatives related to Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs duties independently while also overseeing and mentoring junior Commercial
Engineering staff (ENG Level 1–2) for the following:
Determines and clarifies the sizes and quantities of products (signs valve tags etc.)
needed.
Prepares a detailed MTO (Material Take Off) from customer-provided drawings covering
applicable systems and inventory including identification labels and markers for plumbing
HVAC ducting and Medical Gas components including mechanical piping valves &
equipment.
Sets up Revit parameters during the project’s initial phase based on defined scope.
Following the in-house developed automated Revit plugin MTO completes a QC review to
finalize the MTO.
Involved in a R&D team for the continuous improvement of an in-house developed Revit
plugin
Regularly update the assigned project Daily Status Reports (DSU) with appropriate project
and material information.
Consistently meets or exceeds performance KPIs reflecting both productivity and quality
standards.
Conducts peer QC reviews.
Promotes an environment of teamwork and cooperation and is accessible to employees.
All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Degree in Architecture or Mechanical (HVAC & Plumbing systems) or equivalent related
experience.
Min. 5 years’ experience in commercial building design specifically HVAC & plumbing
design & layout.
Advanced understanding of facility drawings including engineered contract drawings
Shop/IFC drawings HVAC and plumbing layouts.
Proficient in the usage of CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD Revit). Advance knowledge and
experience in Revit would be a competitive advantage.
Experience working with Bluebeam is a plus.
Proficient in MS Office products advanced in Excel.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a
wide range of personalities.
Exhibits above average organizational skills multitasking skills and has the ability to
recognize and deal appropriately with priorities.
The standard office work week is a Compressed Workweek (CWW) whereby the standard
workweek (excluding any approved overtime) consists of five (5) days/forty-eight (48) hours
per week.
Full Time
