About Harris County Flood Control District:
The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County the third most populated county in the United States with a population in excess of 4.7 million including the City of Houston the nations fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county which consist of approximately 1500 channels totaling nearly 2500 miles in length as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins totaling more than 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.What you will do atHarris County Flood Control District:
The Harris County Flood Control District (District) is seeking a qualified candidate for the Design Technician position. The Harris County Flood Control District has a mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County the third most populous county in the United States with a population exceeding 4.7 million including the City of Houston the nations fourth-largest city. The District has jurisdiction over the countys primary stormwater facilities which consist of approximately 1500 channels totaling nearly 2500 miles in length as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins covering over 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks.
Reporting to the Maintenance Engineering Design Section Leader. The Design Technician provides construction document drafting exhibit preparation record research and data entry to support the Maintenance Engineering department.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software to draft detailed construction drawings topographical profiles and related construction documents from detailed surveys.
- Convert rough sketches or drawings and other engineering data received from the maintenance engineering designers or engineers into CAD drawings.
- Research archived drawings to determine the availability of existing plans on past projects.
- Prepare record drawings.
- Prepare maps and exhibits required by the department engineers.
- Plot construction plans showing profiles and cross-sections.
- Compute quantities of excavation & fill and other related construction materials for each project.
- Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
- Requires experience in design and drafting or a related field.
- Requires experience with computer-aided drafting (CAD).
Licensure:
- Valid Class C Texas Drivers License.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Can work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
- Good diagnostic and analytical skills
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional (Outlook Word PowerPoint Excel) GIS Software and Arc Map.
- Familiar with SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Attention to detail.
- Can use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
