Join University of Chicago Medicineas a Registry Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)in the Emergency Department. In this role the Advanced Practice Provider will see large volumes of patients each day with a primary focus on Emergency Severity Indexs 3-5 simple laceration repairs digital blocks pelvic exams and splinting. The Advanced Practice Provider will need to remain flexible as the ED volumes fluctuate.

The Advanced Practice Providerwill beresponsible for comprehensive direct patient care management and will manage a caseload of patients by exercisingautonomous decision making in the assessment diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical APPwillprovide healthcareand patient services that may include educational research and clinical nursing specialist support as well as completeadministrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The APP has acquired the knowledge skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice.

Advanced Practice Provider Essential Job Functions

  • Taking patient history conducting examinations diagnosing illness
  • Patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests
  • Ability to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services
  • Certification in ACLS

Nurse Practitioner Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing
  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers
  • Emergency Department experience as a Nurse Practitioner

Physician Assistant Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • Certification in ACLS
  • Certification from National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure / registration
  • Emergency Department experience

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
