Summary/Objective of Position:
Assure the safety of College students employees guests and visitors of the campus. Assure the safety security and protection of college property buildings grounds equipment and other assets of the college as well as non-college property located on college property.
Respond to emergencies or conditions assist and take action appropriate to the situation within the legal limits of the departments authority.
Description of Essential Functions of the Position

- 50% Crime Prevention:
- Enforce Student Code of Conduct rules/regulations procedures etc.
- Conduct petty misdemeanor level criminal and civil investigations by collecting evidence and assembling them for court testimonies; interview persons; and with appropriate training; detain criminal suspects pursue on foot if necessary; conduct surveillance involving long hours; perform first aid to the sick and injured; writing reports on recommendations for maintenance problems that exist throughout the campus; issue and process parking violation warnings and citations as prescribed by regulations; perform crim prevention duties by securing all doors and windows on campus after hours and non-working days.
- 20%: Conducts mobile and foot patrols of the college campus and residential areas security of all college property buildings students staff faculty and visitors.
- Reports any crime or unusual activity to a certified police officer; enforces those rules and regulations set forth by the Dine College Board of Regents and the President such as the Student Code of Conduct the Parking Regulations and the Transportation Policies and all other DC Policies and Procedures.
- 15% Public Relations:
- Students Staff/Faculty visitors and guests with courtesy and respect.
- Present court testimonies in the Navajo Nation Apache County Arizona State and Federal Courts; give presentations relating to crime prevention and orientation for new students staff and faculty members; carry the duties and responsibilities of a radio dispatcher when necessary.
- Perform rotating shift schedule including holidays as needed.
- 10%: Report writing and data entry into the Crime-Star submission of work orders where appropriate; student referrals staff/faculty referrals housing referrals and incident reports.
- 5%: Other duties as assigned.
- Perform the duties of a radio dispatcher when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 6 months of experience in a customer-facing setting (i.e. Adult Ed).
Preferred:
- Ability to speak Navajo and have healthcare experience is preferred.
- Six (6) months of experience as a Security Officer/Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer.
Knowledge:
- Being able to observe and report to a police officer unusual activities etc.
- Prevents crime by performing foot patrols of college grounds buildings and/or property.
- Being able to assist the sick and injured.
- Enforces rules and regulations; student code of conduct parking regulations and others.
- Adhere to the SOP General and Special Orders and other orders issued by the competent authority.
- Required to work variable work schedule rotation shifts working holidays and special assignments.
- Have knowledge of all existing rules and regulations directives and orders.
- Comply with all provisions of the Personnel Policy Manual and all others.
Skills:
- Interacts with culturally and socially diverse populations.
- Exhibit professional conduct demeanor speech and attitude.
- Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Computer literate: Work and Excel.
- Ability to observe record events accurately and completely and be able to handle multiple tasks.
- Maintain all required licenses and certifications in current status.
Abilities:
- Good speaking ability.
- Dealing with persons and groups firearms and non-lethal weapons.
- Familiar with laws of arrest search and seizures.
- Analyzing situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action.
- Adhere to the SOP General/Special Orders Directives and others issued by the competent authority.
Physical Requirements Work Environment & Travel:
- Must be physically fit and have a satisfactory physical examination.
- The employee is required to perform shift work including days evenings and nights including weekends and holidays.
- Employee must occasionally lift and or move more than 50 pounds.
Other Requirement(s):
- Ability to speak Navajo is preferred.
- Defensive Driving Certification First Aid/CPR/AED Certification Defensive Tactics Certification.
