Job Description

TITLE:Direct Care Nurse

POSTION TYPE:TCHR

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

  1. Iowa Registered Nurse License.
  2. CPR Certification.
  3. Valid drivers license.
  4. Nusring experience in a clincial setting.

Desired:

  1. Bachelors degree in nursing or related field.
  2. Statement of Professional Recognition through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  3. Experience in pediatric nursing or public health nursing.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Exceptional communciation and interpersonal skills both oral and written.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides direct skilled nursing care to a student with special health care needs during the school day on a 1:1 basis. Direct nursing care may include assessments feedings respiratory system management medication administration and management of activities of daily living.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Delivers quality care consistent with the Iowa Board of Nursing and DMPS standards.
  2. Utilizes critical thinking skills.
  3. Performs head-to-toe assessments.
  4. Basic understanding of trach cares trach suctioning and trach emergency procedures.
  5. Prepare and assist students with meals.
  6. Take care of students personal hygiene needs.
  7. Administer medicine and treatments as prescribed by provider(s).
  8. Collaboration as needed with students team including teachers school staff building nurse family and providers.
  9. Monitor the physical mental and emotional conditions of students and report changes to designated parties.
  10. May be responsible for transportation of student and/or supervision during transportation.
  11. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical records and time entry including Medicaid billing documentation.
  12. Train and orient new staff as assigned.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

FLSA STATUS:Exempt

FT/PT:Full TimeDAYS:195 OR 199 day contract HOURS:7.75 Hour Day

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Standing walking sitting bending/stooping reaching/pushing/pulling climbing stairs lifting and carrying

WORKING CONDITIONS:Mostly indoors
