About the work unit
The Pueblo Regional Center exists to provide support to individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) medical and/or psychiatric needs. These individuals live in group homes located in the Pueblo West community.
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the establishment of nursing policies procedures and standards and coordination of nursing services with other health care disciplines in the delivery of resident care to meet required regulatory standards. Additionally the DON monitors competency of Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAPs) and Licensed Psychiatric Technicians (LPTs) in the area of health and medication administration. This position also provides clinical care back up and supports dietary therapies and medication services as needed.

Description of Job



Appointing Authority Responsibilities. Exercise appointing authority responsibility with direct line supervision over Nursing Department in the areas of staff hiring performance planning performance evaluation corrective and disciplinary action and agency duty office coverage.


Administration
. Administers and supervises Health Services for up to 88 developmentally disabled adults living at Pueblo Regional Center through direct and delegated appointing authority. Negotiates and manages the community medical services for the Medicaid Waiver program through collaboration with other state agencies and community providers including Personal Services Agreements for contract medical behavioral services and supplies. Resolves informal conflicts including schedule conflicts. Issues corrective actions and recommends disciplinary action that may result in employee termination.

Policy Administration.
Develop policies/procedures/standards related to health care and treatment by analyzing trends of existing processes and assuring that the guidelines serve to maintain the goals and objectives of the Health Services work unit agency and Department of Human Services.

Management Team Participation. As a member of the agency management team develops a strategic plan and makes decisions that affect all agency personnel and individuals in accordance with agency policies and procedures and State and Federal regulations pertaining to Health Services. Position develops proposals for service to present to the Agency Director/ Director of Regional Center Operations and Division Director of Nursing. Participates in QA and Management activities regularly as they relate to nursing services and through a variety of management activities (including but not limited to incident report meetings Quality Assurance meetings Nursing Services Departmental meeting Medication Incident Committee Infection Control Committee Management Team meeting).

Medication and Treatment Processes. Reviews all medication Error Incident reports and follow-up action taken. Makes changes as needed in agency policy and procedures related to medication administration and reviews trends and appropriate personnel action. This action includes a multitude of corrective actions such as corrective action for performance problems of Nurses or Licensed Psychiatric Technicians by developing for redesigning Health Services protocols and procedures to be implemented agency wide one-to-one counseling and training. Provide skills training and schedule continuing education to maintain competencies (i.e. suctioning oxygen medication administration pressure ulcer risk enteral nutrition infection control CPR First Aid etc). Performing Clinical duties as needed. Due to an emergency situation responsible for transporting the individuals we serve utilizing a state vehicle.

Other Duties as Assigned. Performs other non-specified duties as requested by the Director or other senior leadership.

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:


Masters degree in nursing from an accredited institution Current valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

Five (5) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position one of which must have been at the level of a unit supervisor or equivalent

Substitutions

Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis


Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Nursing.
  • Experience as a supervisor over healthcare staff.
  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities.
  • Experience working with community IDD systems(i.e. CMAs PASAs etc).
  • Experience in program management and providing a strategic vision for your program.
  • Experience in supporting clients transitioning to a new setting.
  • Experience in a long term care or assisted living facility.
  • Experience working with individuals with a mental health diagnosis.
  • Experience multi-taskingand prioritizing assignments.
  • Serving as a caring supportive and accountableleader.
  • Willingness to work on an interdisciplinary team and problem solve solutions to improve services.
  • Good work history
  • Relevant years of State service experience.

  • Must possess a valid unrestricted Colorado Drivers License
  • Travel Position must travel between work sites and transport individuals as needed. Position is required to utilize a State vehicle to transport residents. When not transporting individuals this person may drive a State Vehicle or choose to drive their own. May submit for mileage reimbursement.
  • Must successfully pass Behavioral intervention training annually. TB testing is conducted annually.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    • Disclose that information on the application.

    • Provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.

    • Provide the employee number from the applicants prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
