Job Description

Department Overview

This position provides technical support and works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who isresponsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs in inpatients and outpatients who range in agefrom neonates infants <1 year old children and adolescents ages 1-18 adults ages 19-65 and the elderly age

>65. The person working this shift is responsible for accurate production of sterile and non-sterilecompounded medications insuring productions and work environments are clean records are accurateinventory is stocked batch production proceeds according to standard operating procedure(s) and on-demandproduction is prioritized and completed according to specifications. Additional responsibilities include:automated inventory maintenance of controlled and non-controlled medications inventory discrepancyreconciliation pharmacy computer system order entry workflow and compliance audits supply andmedication ordering utilization of pharmacy-related technology and performing other duties as assigned. Thisperson is responsible to have knowledge of and perform responsibilities in accordance with rules establishedby the Oregon Board of Pharmacy GMP FDA USP 795 and 797 and other regulatory or advisory bodiesdeemed to be applicable to sterile and non-sterile compounding.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Prepare mix and compound sterile products observing aseptic proceduresand documenting lot numbers appropriately. Clean bench top work surfaces vertical and laminar flow hoods and associated equipment discarding all non- preserved and or non-labeled solutions. Maintain work area in neat and orderly condition. Open and mark by date fresh solutions and additives if applicable

  • Prepare and mix non-sterile compounded and repackaged products.
  • Operate automated inventory maintenance equipment. Maintain inventory ofcontrolled and non-controlled substances solutions and associated supplies and equipment. Generate orders for appropriate vendors to acquirereplenishment stock.

  • Check in drug delivery orders and maintain appropriate supply inventory
  • Other assigned duties

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License AND
  • 2 years of pharmacy work experience or equivalent additional education;AND
  • Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association. Certification must be maintained.

Job Related KnowledgeSkills and Abilities(Competencies):

  • Knowledge of common pharmaceutical compounding equipment technology and practices.
  • Experience with aseptic technique IV admixture.
  • Familiarity with medical and scientific terms/nomenclature.
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations.
  • Compounded pharmaceuticals database reference knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years experience in a compounding institution compounding community pharmacy or hospital/IV/clean room experience.

Additional Details

Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noise. Flexibility in scheduling of shift for accuracy associated with performance of the duties to this position.
