Job Description

Vail Health has become the worlds most advanced mountain healthcare system. Vail Health consists of an updated 520000-square-foot 56-bed hospital.   1. Maintains professional knowledge of the breastfeeding process antepartum intrapartum and postpartum healthcare and psychosocial issues and knowledge of newborns (premature and term) to toddlers.
  2. Maintains highly specialized skills and abilities regarding assessment intervention diagnosis and evaluation in the breastfeeding couplet including complex situations.
  3. Actively promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their breastfeeding goals.
  4. Serves as the consultant for Vail Health regarding breastfeeding issues including both outpatient and inpatient consults.
  5. Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team and coordinates patient care with other health care providers to achieve the highest possible level of patient care and satisfaction. Receives referrals from physicians nursing staff and patients.
  6. Promotes and maintains employee lactation program for Vail Health. Serves as a resource and consultant for employees.
  7. Plans oversees and coordinates patient family and staff with breastfeeding education activities.
  8. Acts as a role model and preceptor to communicate implement and support service line objectives and standards as they relate to the breastfeeding couplet and staff members.
  9. Upholds the scope of practice and code of professional conduct for IBCLCs as defined by IBCLC or code of ethics and scope of practice for CLC as defined by ALPP depending on certification held.
  10. Participates in community activities.
  11. Role models the principles of a Just Culture.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
