Responsible for the overall coordination planning and management of patient family and staff education to ensure the promotion protection and support of the breastfeeding dyad. The IBCLC is an independently functioning member of the health care team who assesses plans implements and evaluates the breastfeeding mother and newborn.
- Maintains professional knowledge of the breastfeeding process antepartum intrapartum and postpartum healthcare and psychosocial issues and knowledge of newborns (premature and term) to toddlers.
- Maintains highly specialized skills and abilities regarding assessment intervention diagnosis and evaluation in the breastfeeding couplet including complex situations.
- Actively promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their breastfeeding goals.
- Serves as the consultant for Vail Health regarding breastfeeding issues including both outpatient and inpatient consults.
- Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team and coordinates patient care with other health care providers to achieve the highest possible level of patient care and satisfaction. Receives referrals from physicians nursing staff and patients.
- Promotes and maintains employee lactation program for Vail Health. Serves as a resource and consultant for employees.
- Plans oversees and coordinates patient family and staff with breastfeeding education activities.
- Acts as a role model and preceptor to communicate implement and support service line objectives and standards as they relate to the breastfeeding couplet and staff members.
- Upholds the scope of practice and code of professional conduct for IBCLCs as defined by IBCLC or code of ethics and scope of practice for CLC as defined by ALPP depending on certification held.
- Participates in community activities.
- Role models the principles of a Just Culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
- One-year inpatient/outpatient clinical experience preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

- Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) required
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association required
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies access online forms and policies complete online benefits enrollment etc.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
